Fire Engine Crash Enroute to Structure Fire
Larkspur FD Volunteer Fireman Jim Niven was killed when his fire engine crashed responding to a fire in a convalescent home laundry room in January 1978. He was 43, and left a wife and two teenage daughters. A plaque and dedication is mounted in front of Larkspur Station 1 as it was then named, now designated Larkspur Station 15, at 420 Magnolia Ave. An annual high school scholarship for college is awarded by the Larkspur Association of Volunteer Firefighters in his memory.
